Mindy Sotiri writes tunes. And plays them. Quite often in front of other people. Mindy plays regularly around Sydney, and has recorded two albums over the last few years. Accidental Invitation (February 2003) and Drink It (September 2004) both distributed through MGM. In 2007 three of her songs featured on the soundtrack of hit indie film ŒAll My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane¹.

Mindy has recently returned from album and regular gig maternity leave. During her time off she ate an inordinate amount of chocolate, slept in short insomniac bursts and wrote a stack of new songs about sleep deprivation and breast-feeding. She realises this is very un-rock, and anticipates a return to songs about tortured relationships and drug addiction some time soon. But right now she finds the domestic brutally inspiring. She is gearing up to record her third album at the beginning of 2009.

Mindy plays every few weeks at a range of venues around Sydney- She has played sell out gigs at luminous Sydney venues like the Basement and the Vanguard, and supported many successful artists such as David Bridie, Chris Smither, Abby Dobson, and the Stiff Gins She also plays on a regular basis to a scattering of emotional hecklers and exhausted bar staff. She likes it both ways.

She spent her formative years listening to Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Lou Reed and fell quickly and easily in love with the sounds and words of grumpy Jewish men who had smoked too many cigarettes. Since then she has fallen in love with any number of less grumpy non-smokers, but she continues to be inspired by the way it is possible to tangle words around guitar strings and make something very beautiful. Mindy¹s music might best be described as hard-ish folk. Which is to say, that although she mostly plays with her fingers and messes around with tunings, she does not do a good line in lilting third person narratives. Gorgeous finger-style guitar, combined with smart, engaging lyrics and a unique voice, her tunes- and live shows have enormously wide appeal. Although they are particularly enjoyed by girls prone to drunken weeping.
